In Orange County , drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in kids under five years old . It only takes a few seconds to drown but this life-changing tragedy is 100 % preventable by simply following these tips :
• Supervise and pay constant attention to children in or near water .
• Learn how to swim and learn water safety survival skills including CPR .
• Fence pools and spas with adequate barriers , including four-sided fencing that are at least 5 ’ tall .
• Children and inexperienced swimmers should wear a floatation device .
• Swim in a lifeguarded area , where applicable .
