Laguna ’ s marine life and habitats are protected about 2.5 miles off the coast in an area deemed the No Take Zone . The triangular space consists of the recently sanctioned Laguna Beach State Marine Reserve ( SMR ) and the Laguna Beach State Marine Conservation Area ( SMCA ), which extend from Laguna ’ s northern-most city limit at Abalone Point to Table Rock Beach near downtown .
Beachgoers can enjoy quintessential summertime activities like swimming , stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking in the coastal waters , but fishing and harvesting is barred , ensuring that Laguna ’ s natural resources will be enjoyed for many more summers to come .
