LAGUNA ART-A-FAIR
In honor of its 50th year , Art-A-Fair was renamed Laguna Art-A-Fair . This summer , the festival will celebrate by giving back to the community that helped it reach this milestone . In addition to hosting its second annual Auction and Wine Event to benefit Laguna College of Art & Design on July 10 , Laguna Art-A-Fair will also donate a sea lion sculpture — painted by the festival ’ s artists this summer — to the Pacific Marine Mammal Center on Aug . 20 .
The Golden Celebration , a goldthemed party complete with a live band and dancing , will take place Aug . 13 to celebrate Laguna Art- A-Fair ’ s history . Leading up to the event , visitors who spend $ 200 or more at the festival ’ s sales booth will be entered into a giveaway .
“ Lots of galleries and lots of our artists have come and gone ,
12 SUMMER 2016 CITY GUIDE but here we are still . And given the reality of our relatively small size when compared to some other festivals , it is even more remarkable ,” says Mike Cahill , president of Laguna Art-A-Fair ’ s board of directors , about its 50th year .
FESTIVAL OF ARTS
Festival of Arts , in its 84th year , will introduce 17 new exhibiting artists and several new events this summer . Art and Story Time welcomes children ages 2 to 5 to a new weekly program that combines books with creative projects .
Additionally , the festival will offer Books and Brunch , an adult literary experience that provides guests with the opportunity to meet and talk with authors as they discuss their writing and creative process .
On Tuesday evenings throughout the summer , the Festival of Arts ’ new Rising Young Stars Music Series will highlight young up-and-coming musicians . These talented performers were selected by the festival ’ s roster of
