STATE OF THE

Art

L aguna Beach ’ s three iconic art festivals have something special to celebrate this summer : In honor of the 50th year for both Laguna Art-A-Fair and Sawdust Art Festival , the festivals will team up on a project titled Art Is Timeless . The collaboration tasked 50 of the festivals ’ participating artists with the creation of a one-of-a-kind , artistic clock ; all 50 clocks are located throughout town for locals to find by way of a special map on lagunabeachpassport . com .

But it ’ s not just the clocks that offer something fresh this summer . On the festival grounds , exciting additions , special commemorative events and new activities abound .
SAWDUST ART FESTIVAL
To commemorate its golden year , Sawdust Art Festival will kick off the summer with a new theme : Celebrating the Soul of Art for 50 Years . Several major art installations will be on display as part of the celebration , including four-time exhibitor Liz Avalon ’ s sculptural bicycle rack on Canyon Road and 35-time exhibitor Bruce Freund ’ s 7-foot-tall , hand-blown glass sculptural light fixture .
On-site , visitors will find a new gallery dedicated to the festival ’ s 50-year history and an expanded merchandise shop , as well as the addition of GG ’ s Mediterranean Express as a dining option .
“ We are hoping this summer will be different for our artists because we have challenged them to remember why they wanted to be part of the Sawdust in the first place ,” says Sawdust Art Festival General Manager Tom
This summer , Laguna ’ s pre-eminent art festivals have something new around every corner .
