4.1.2.5 Malaysian Employees: Recruitment Cost
37% of all employers profiled spent on recruitment in 2015, with an average expenditure of
RM18,600 per employer (for both full-time and part-time employees). Recruitment cost includes
expenditure on job advertisements, fees to recruitment agencies, career fairs, etc. ICT,
manufacturing and financial sectors were the top 3 highest spenders on recruitment in 2015. The
employers in these sectors incurred an average annual cost of RM30,000 – RM46,000 per
employer for their recruitment activities.

Large companies spent 3.4 times more on recruitment compared to the national average, while
SMEs spent about RM3,000 – RM11,000 per employer in 2015.
