3.3.4 Overtime Payment
43% of the employers made OT payment to their full-time Malaysian employees, which
represented 38% of the total other monthly cash payments made (cash allowance, commission
and OT payment). 20% of these employers who provided OT payment are from the
manufacturing industry. Across all industries, average payment received per employee for
overtime hours was RM400 per month. Those in the managerial, associate professional, skilled
agricultural / forestry / livestock / fishery and machine operation / assembly job categories had
the highest OT payment.
For non-Malaysians, 11% and 61% of the employers with expatriate / PR employees and foreign
workers respectively made OT payment to these employees. The average monthly overtime
payment for both expatriate / PR employees and foreign workers was RM450 to RM500. Overall,
foreign workers received the highest amount of payment as they worked the longest overtime
hours. Total amount spent by employers on OT payment to foreign workers amounted to 77% of
all other monthly cash payments made to these workers (cash allowance, commission and OT).
Majority of the foreign workers who were paid for working overtime hours were from the
manufacturing, agriculture, forestry and fishing sectors.
