The Results Are In ! 2017 Membership Survey by Drew Gaskins , specialist , Membership and Kristy Albrecht , associate specialist , Marketing and Membership
In March 2017 , APHL launched the 2017 Membership Survey . The survey was performed utilizing APHL ’ s Institutional Research survey platform . It is critical that we , as an organization , provide our members an opportunity to provide feedback on the value of APHL membership and identify opportunities to better serve their needs .
After reviewing the responses from the 265 survey participants , we are proud to report on the overwhelmingly positive feedback that we have received . In addition , we identified a few areas where APHL needs to increase our marketing efforts . This article provides some key takeaways , but a standalone publication with more detailed information will be developed in the near future . Special thanks to APHL ’ s Institutional Research team for providing the results in both quantitative and qualitative formats .

You ’ re the best ! Thanks !
• member engagement .
From a macro perspective , the numbers indicate that members most value APHL ’ s training and continuing education opportunities , timely and up-to-date information , the opportunity to convene , collaborate and network with peers and subject matter experts , and APHL ’ s position as a liaison and voice in advocating for the needs of public health laboratories with various decision makers and funders . While these were the most frequently valued benefits of membership , they are in no way a comprehensive list . We have come to understand that , although the large majority of the benefits offered to our members are regularly used and highly valued , additional promotional efforts are required for activities with lower levels of familiarity , such as our Global Health volunteer opportunities , the Survey Resource Center , Federal grant guidance documents and the member search tool .
The Membership Department looks forward to applying the lessons learned from these responses . Thanks to all who participated in this vital evaluation . We value members ’ feedback and strive to make the APHL membership experience even better . n
