PUBLIC HEALTH PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE further generation of individual safety documents or guidance . CDPHE LSD also promoted cultures of safety by directly providing comprehensive , standardized plans for its partners .
CDPHE LSD was the first site in the US to successfully conduct a mass sampling . With that achievement , CDPHE LSD collaborated with other institutions across the US and internationally to implement a standardized process for mass sampling in their localities , but with customized application for their individual sites . Mass sampling site plans not only included planning meetings between all participants , standardized plans and logistical coordination but also PPE , sampling kits , biohazard sample bags , cold transport materials and courier services for the site . It was observed , early on , that if the laboratory were to provide sampling kits , it should also be providing all supplemental materials to partners to ensure their safety during sample acquisition . Because the state of Colorado ’ s supply of sampling kits was being received and distributed through the CDPHE LSD warehouse , CDPHE LSD also acquired large volumes of PPE to be distributed along with the sampling kits .

Carrie Anglewicz , biosafety officer and state training coordinator
Biosafety outreach has been continuous in Michigan throughout the pandemic . Initially , the laboratory provided just-in-time training for packing and shipping of COVID-19 samples for new partners across the state . The tasks were broadened in October 2020 to provide a train-the-trainer class for over 100 Michigan National Guard members who were deployed to assist with antigen test training and distribution . Antigen test training has expanded and now includes non-laboratory healthcare partners and schools .
The training courses for the Michigan National Guard were held in person , and the rest of the trainings are held live virtually on Microsoft Teams . All trainings , which are tailored to non-laboratorians , include PPE usage , safe work practices , test performance , waste management and a competency component . Job aids such as YouTube videos that detail the process are also provided free to be utilized after the training . n
