While DOH PHL was developing its testing assay , DOH worked with clinical epidemiologists , health officials , community organizations and CDC to develop communication and vaccination resources to slow mpox ’ s spread . Thanks to those efforts , mpox cases drastically decreased around the same time DOH PHL ’ s presence / absence testing was available . As a result , mpox was not detected in any wastewater samples tested . DOH PHL is continuing to work on developing an assay to quantify mpox and is analyzing stored samples from the peak case-rates to refine mpox wastewater testing sensitivity . Wastewater testing remains a longterm strategy to monitor potential mpox outbreaks and resurgences in Washington state . g
