“ We streamlined the process by using the entire pool for nucleic acid extraction ,” Bolton explained . “ This saves time and reduces the use of plasticware since we aren ’ t first constructing high volume pools and then transferring an aliquot for nucleic acid extraction . Using the ASSIST PLUS in this way has automated two steps in the process that were previously performed as manual pipetting steps .”

Bolton says the adoption of pooled testing for arbovirus surveillance has resulted in a 75 % savings in extraction and PCR reagents and reduced use of PCR instrumentation .
