4 Strengthening the Global Community Through Laboratory Surveillance
Emerging amid the spread of yet another variant of SARS-CoV-2 , the monkeypox outbreak feels a bit like a test of how well public health agencies have learned the lessons of the COVID-19 pandemic . Well into the third year of the pandemic and staring down an uncertain autumn , the timing is right to build on the momentum of support for public health laboratories , to further strengthen laboratory systems and their place in ongoing global surveillance efforts .
