Formal Definition
A pattern of shared basic assumptions that
was learned by a group as it solved its
problems of external adaptation and internal
integration that has worked well enough to
be considered valid and therefore to be
taught to new members as the correct way
to perceive, think and feel in relation to
those problems.

Three Levels of Culture
Artifacts
All of the phenomena that one sees, hears, and feels when one
encounters a new group with an unfamiliar culture
Beliefs and Values
The articulated, publicly announced principles and values that the group
claims to be trying to achieve.
Basic Assumptions
Beliefs and values transformed into unconscious assumptions, supported
by an articulated set of beliefs, norms and operational rules of behavior.
