Josephine Baker

&

The Rainbow Tribe

Josephine is known for her infamous "Banana Dance", her embodiment of the African physique, and from her work as a spy with the French resistance during World War 2. Mrs. Baker was also an activist and an avid supporter of equality and integration. This is evident in her interracial relationship with her manager, and her Rainbow Tribe. The Rainbow Tribe was a group of children from France, Finland, Belgium, Japan, and Venezuela that Mrs. Baker adopted. Although flawed her family was an image of acceptance and a call for breaking racial barriers.
