1) Vaccine against typhus
Recommended by the World Health Organization, a new vaccine manages to prevent 9 out of 10 cases of typhoid fever. This virus affects 22 million people each year, killing more than 200,000. With this vaccine, many lives could be saved, especially in the least developed countries, which is where this disease is most prevalent.
2) Genetic edition
By means of the genetic edition the gene that generates that the person has a disease can be eliminated. So far this was only a theory, but in 2017 the Spanish scientist Francisco Mojica showed that it can be applied in reality.
Change the DNA
With genetic editing techniques, a group of scientists from the United States has successfully tried to modify the DNA of a patient with Hunter syndrome. With this method it is possible to eliminate the genes that create this disease and, at the same time, open the door to cure other diseases.
