I often dream of buying and restoring a dilapidated and forgotten Chateau in the French countryside. It’s a personal goal I have wanted to achieve for some time now as I am a self appointed francophile. I imagine myself retiring to my own (considerably less impressive) Versailles but that accomplishment is in my distant future. Until then, I settle for thinking of new ways to redesign my small palace - I mean apartment - in Midtown, Manhattan but the dream still lives on. La Maison is for people like me, those who envision a greater life for themselves and have the wherewithal to understand that it won't be handed to you on a silver platter. We are here for dreamers who make plans a reality.
In our premiere issue, we spotlight the perceived need to complete a space (or in some cases, a whole apartment) days after move-in. While this seems superficially un-problematic in our eyes, this can be detrimental to the longevity of your space. This topic speaks to me and the aspirations I shared above. Though I could opt for a cheap (term being used loosely) imitation of a French chateau, a modular copy-cat with cement pillars and non-ornate facade I choose to wait. While I am instant-gratifications biggest fan, I know that my happiness will be greater when I wait to get exactly what I want. Spending to fulfill a want quickly will result in one thing: disappointment. The faster we realize we want something for the long term - the easier it is to flex our willpower and wait to get exactly what we desire.
