Adam Carlson and Andria Olson

We met in the fall of 2007. Adam
was the manager of a local video store I
rented movies from. One day, Adam and
I were discussing the movie Transformers he asked me to go on a date with him.
At the time, I wasn’t ready for another
guy friend, so I told him, “I’m not taking friend applications.” After I rented
my videos and left, I felt really bad for
saying that to him. The next day, I went
back to apologize, and of course, I rented
more videos. I felt so bad about making
that rude statement I asked him if he still
wanted to go out sometime.
That very same night, after Adam
got done with work, we went on our
?rst date together. Adam was adamant
about seeing a certain comedy movie,
and it was a great choice…we almost
died laughing! Afterward, it was cloudy
but warm, so we took a walk. We literally walked all over Willmar. At around
1 a.m., the clouds started lighting up
and the thunder started cracking. It was
about to rain, but we kept on walking.
Adam kept saying “the rain will stop any
second now…it only rains hard like this
for 30 seconds at a time.” Of course, he
was wrong! Even though both of us were
totally soaked, Adam gave me his shirt
and stood in front of me to protect me
from the wind and rain. It was just like
in the movies. That ?rst date was the best
?rst date I have ever had. The next day, I
called Adam to see if he would like to go
out with me again. We talked until early
morning. I had never before felt such a
connection with someone after only one
day. We just seemed to click. I wanted to
see him every day after that. I somehow
knew he felt the same way.
Adam would surprise me at work in
the mornings, with warm mu?ns and
my favorite co?ee. Sometimes he would

Nos conocimos en el otoño del 2007.
Adam trabajaba en una tienda en la que
yo rentaba videos. Un día Adam y yo comentábamos acerca de la película Transformers y él me pidió que aceptara salir
con él en una cita. En ese momento yo no
estaba solicitando amigos , en ese mismo
momento le conteste que no estaba aceptando aplicaciones para amigos.
Después de rentar algunas películas
me fui y más tarde me sentí un poco mal
por haber sido tan descortés y por haber
contestado de esa manera. Al siguiente día
regrese, le pedí una disculpa y claro rente
más películas. Me sentía tan mal que le

with lunch for the both of us. He was the
?rst man to send me ?owers; he sent dozens of roses! Of course, we went on dates
every single night.
Unfortunately, bad luck struck. Adam’s
store ended up shutting down. He worked
at a variety of di?erent jobs, and then he
did what he had always dreamed of doing;
he joined the air force in September of
2008, and left for basic training in October. It was tough on the both of us. He was
my best friend…it was hard to say goodbye. I did my best to support him while he
was gone. I wrote to him every day.
After two months which seemed like
an eternity to me, Adam came home on
Exodus (Christmas break). On December 23, he took me out for supper at our
favorite restaurant, Café Persepolis. The
mood was romantic, and the food was
fantastic. When our waitress brought us a
dessert of Baklava, she gave Adam a new
fork and napkin, but I was only given a
napkin. Around the napkin was a sparkling diamond engagement ring. Adam
took the ring, got down on his knee and
proposed to me.
We were married the following Monday, December 29, 2008. It was a short
engagement but neither of us cared. We
wanted to ensure that our life would continue together wherever he may have to
go to serve the air force. The wedding
ceremony was performed at the courthouse by Teresa Frederickson. Both of
our immediate families attended, a short
poem was read, the vows were exchanged
and of course, the rings! Afterward, our
families celebrated our new union at
Persepolis. It was perfect!
Currently, Adam is stationed in
Texas and I am still working in Willmar.
We are awaiting news of where his next

station will be, where we will be able to
start our lives together. We are both very
excited. It is hard being apart, but I have
heard that the separation will make the
