From the Editor & A Message from the Publisher From the Desk of Paul Sciria The Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Devil’s Triangle, is said to be a loosely defined region in the western part of the Atlantic Ocean where a number of aircraft disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Its boundaries include the mid-Atlantic island of Bermuda. On that island, many years ago, I was an eyewitness to a disappearing incident but, nothing dubious was involved. The incident happened on a sunny November afternoon on the boardwalk behind the Inverurie Hotel where my beautiful wife, Franca, and I were vacationing. We were taking a casual walk when she playfully swung her hand and tapped me on my backside. Unfortunately, her heirloom vintage ring, which she treasured, slipped off her finger and sailed into the mirror-like Atlantic Ocean. Clearly, my wife was shocked and I stood there and watched the ring, slowly and surely, sink. I didn’t move an inch as I watched the gold circular object disappear below the surface NEWS 04 News from Italy 05 News from the Consulate SPOTLIGHT SERIES 06 Writer: Pamela Ann Dorazio Dean FEATURE 07 Caffe Florian in Venice 07 Aloha Italians! 08 Expo Milano 2015 08 There's a Travel App for That! 09 Visa or no Visa? 14 Sorrento 15 Travel Inspires, Engages our Minds and Keeps Us Inquisitive 15 How to Apply for an Italian Passport EVENTS IN ITALY 12 Current Events HISTORY & CULTURE 16 An Ivory from Amalfi 2 SUPPORT YOUR ONLY ITALIAN NEWSPAPER! I told Franca to go back to the hotel and explain to someone what happened and perhaps they could help. Sure enough, within minutes, my wife returned with a short, stocky man, decked out in a wetsuit, wearing goggles and large flippers. I told him I hadn’t moved one iota and pointed to the spot where the ring fell in and sank. At this point, I’m sure my wife was already silently having a heart-to-heart discussion with St. Anthony for help. The man in the rubber suit gently slipped into the water, and it seemed like only a minute or two before he came to the surface with the ring on his finger. He said the ring never floated to the bottom. It had landed on a piece of algae and, for him, was easy picking.
