A Message from the Publisher

May is here and we have an exciting issue this month featuring our next generation
of Italian Americans. We also take time to celebrate La Gazzetta Italiana’s 24th birthday!
The newspaper has experienced many changes since inception, but one thing has always
stayed the same; our commitment to our readers and advertisers. We thank each and every
one of you for your business over the years!
We have some great articles all dedicated to the next generation of Italian Americans.
We highlight some wonderful students from Youngstown State University as well as some
local families who shared their feelings on what it means to be Italian. We also continue
to feature the wonderful city of Venice, Italy.
This month we are honored to pay tribute to a wonderful man, Father Michael
Contardi; pastor for over 50 years of St. Rocco Parish on the near west side. He has moved
back to Italy, but will not be forgotten. I have known this man my entire life and there is no one who loves the church more
and his Italian heritage. I have been honored to work beside him and see his smiling face every Sunday. We at La Gazzetta
are honored to share a special section of this issue with our readers, dedicated to Father Mike.
The newspaper is headed into our 25th year of publication. We continue to give 100% of our time to the Italian
community and we are always looking for ways to improve. This year, a big goal of ours is to increase our online presence.
La Gazzetta is now on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We are also looking at ways to incorporate online advertising
