From the Editor & A Message from the Publisher From the Desk of Paul Sciria This past January’s blasts of snow, cold air and wind chill remind me of a November back in 1950 when I was a student at The Ohio State University home for the Thanksgiving holiday. The home stay was fine, but I was very anxious to get back to my High Street quarters and join in the festivities of the great football weekend and the encounter with that team “Up North.” That Friday morning after Thanksgiving it was raining, not “cats and dogs,” but big size snowflakes that wouldn’t stop. Though the mounds were building, I was not to be denied my getting back to Columbus. There was no way it was going to happen by car so the family got me to the train station, and that afternoon I was aboard New York Central leaving the underground Terminal Higbee station. I made it to Columbus, but it seemed there was more of the white stuff there than what I had left behind. I had a very difficult time making it to the house, but did somehow make it to the frat house, Lambda Chi Alpha, on 15th street. But, needless to say, Saturday came and went I didn’t make it out of the frat house quarters. So we “brothers” all stayed put and listened on the radio to a game that was played in a virtual blizzard. Sadly to say, the Buckeyes “were out-punted” in a kicking game that went back and f o r t h . On the plus side, the continuing snow meant we had no classes the following Monday and Tuesday. The time off did give me more of an opportunity to catch up on studies and handle my part-time job at Baker Hall serving the female students their coffee and desserts. Paul Sciria, Managing Editor Y o u can bet that the next year I made that November game against that team up north. We had a new coach and his name was Woody Hayes and we started winning.
