Italy has changed its role in the Western coalition
against ISIS. In agreement with the U.S. military, Italy
will be deployed to carry out bombing missions against
targets in Iraq. Italy had been urged to take greater
responsibility rather than be limited to reconnaissance.
The Tornados will make direct strikes under rules
of engagement. U.S. Secretary of Defense Ashton
Carter is pleased with the Italian commitment.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - Venice is considering selling some masterpiece paintings
by Klimt and Chagall to plug its finance shortages.
Sinking foundations and high tides have prompted
spending needs much beyond the city’s budget. The Klimt
painting identified as Judith II (Salome) could raise as
much as 70 million euros. Other oil masterpieces held
in public museums could bring hundreds of millions in
auctions. The mayor of Venice noted that neither
Klimt nor Chagall had any links to the lagoon city.
more money on wages than promoting Italy. Court cases
have been filed by ENIT employees who don’t want to
lose their “higher than White House” status and income.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - Ignazio Marino has resigned as mayor of Rome. For
months, questions have been raised about several issues
including thousands of euros in expenses which he
charged to the city. These issues are compounded with
complaints of uncollected rubbish, un-mowed grass
in public parks, and public contract corruption that
did not implicate Marino, but did result in the arrests
of several other city officials. The Jubilee which runs
for 12 months begins in Rome on Dec. 8 and Marino’s
critics charged he was not competent to manage the

- - - - - - - - - - - - - What’s next for the Expo site that closed its doors on
Oct. 31? The area is as large as 180 football fields (1
million square meters). The landowners have asked the
Lombard Regional Council, Milan City Council and
the Trade Fair Authority to come up with a plan and
solution. One suggestion includes transferring some
Milan University departments to the land. A stadium
appears to be out of the question and affordability.
- - - - - - - - - - - - - Six United Kingdom employees of an environmental
firm were caught on video skinny dipping in the Piazza
della Repubblica, one of Rome’s busiest spots, coined
by many as “the naughty fountain.” They were part of
a group in the city for training courses. Arrested and
fined, they apparently had been drinking before the
incident. They also face company disciplinary action.

group of 13 people with disabilities
and a young priest, Don Franco
Monterubbianesi,

to
begin the adventure of a lifetime
together in an old abandoned
mansion in Capodarco of Fermo,
in the Marche region. Soon, many
other boys and girls, along with
other young disabled volunteers,
joined them, choosing to live in the
