OCTOBER Preview
This wonderful land of America
was built by immigrants. Thanks
to our hardworking ancestors
of yesteryears, today we enjoy the
fruits of their labors. The Italian
immigrants were one of the largest
groups to come through Ellis
Island and make a new life in
America. The October issue will
celebrate the immigrants of the
past and the Italian-Americans
of today, all who make us proud
to call ourselves Italian. Join us
in October as we commemorate
Italian
Heritage
Month!

It’s back to school, again, and I
remember, as an 18-year-old, starting
class in springtime at The Ohio State
University. My tuition those many years

pampered and spoiled young man had
ever been out of the house. As a late
blooming teenager, I was mightily ruled
by a no-nonsense mother who, for several
years, imposed an 8:30 p.m. curfew, even
in the summertime when there was still
daylight. Regardless of what I was doing,
when she appeared at the front screen
door, it was time to come in from outdoors.
Living off OSU’s campus on Indianola
Avenue, one of my roommates was Uncle
Bill, a graduate student and an instructor
at the school. He was, literally, my
“watchdog.” By luck of the
