Directed by Bruno Oliviero. Detective Monaco is tightlipped and world-weary, deep in his shell since the death of his wife three years ago. He keeps family photos— like his emotions—locked up in a drawer. Though he’s a keen analyst and a superb cop, Monaco lacks THE HUMAN FACTOR. Monaco’s teenage daughter Linda is desperate for his attention, but his attitude toward her is frosty. Coke-fueled murders have become commonplace on Monaco’s beat, and he wants out. But when a high roller known to party with underage girls is found dead in a pool of blood, Monaco’s boss orders him to take the case. When Linda arrives at the station in the back of a patrol car, Monaco’s closely circumscribed world threatens to unravel completely. Actors Silvio Orlando (Monaco) and Alice Raffaelli (Linda) are outstanding, performing a sad tango of father-daughter aloofness and longing. Martini relies on Handle for his creative drive, while Handy is relegated to the armrest. After decades of being ignored and living with Handle’s mediocrity, Handy does what any sensible hand would do: he quite literally breaks free. With the help of a venerable writer (the legendary Franco Nero), Handy begins an enchanting journey across the entire globe that takes him from the Pyramids to Hollywood. When Handy meets a gorgeous disembodied hand named Manicure on a Sicilian beach, she sets his middle finger ablaze. It doesn’t take the two long to go palm-to-palm. But as Handy’s ambitions get bigger and bigger, he realizes he could be responsible for a perilous rebellion: “Handependence Day.” With adventure, comedy and Friday, 3/21 - 8:45 p.m. Saturday, 3/22 - 6:30 p.m. (Hanna Theater) Monday, 3/24 - 2:00 p.m. SALVO, directed by Fabio Grassadonia, Antonio Piazza, 2013 Mafia hit man Salvo goes about his brutal job without even flinching. Killing has become second nature. When he breaks into a rival’s home and murders him, he finds that the target’s sister has witnessed the crime. After realizing she’s blind, Salvo finds himself conflicted. Though he’s required to execute her, he can’t seem to finish the deed. For the first time, his conscience kicks in. At the same time, the girl finds herself faced with a new experience of her own. Her vision seems to improve every time he touches her face. A strange chemical reaction is occurring between them, but the unfortunate circumstances that brought it about make it confusing, to say the least. Unsure of what to do, Salvo decides to lock her up in a warehouse. He can’t kill her, but he knows he can’t let her go. As his bosses get wind of the situation, Salvo will be forced to make a difficult choice. Featuring breathtaking cinematography and exceptional performances from Saleh Bakri and Sara Serraiocco, SALVO is an intelligent action-thriller with a big heart.
