Art was never my strong point . I remember many years ago , I had an art class at A . J . Rickoff school on Kinsman Rd . at E . 147th . I was one of those “ stick figure ” kinds of artists . Arms and legs were just straight lines , and the face and tummy were small circles . I can assure you there was no Titian or Botticelli in me and I ’ m sure my teacher was only too happy to see me pass on to another grade and class .

Getting to school at Alexander Hamilton Junior High at E . 131st and Kinsman was a whole different scenario . There was no walking there . The streetcar was our travel carrier and one could buy a weeklong school pass for either 25 or 50 cents , and if you needed a transfer , that cost a penny . I would , one day , need transfers when I went on to senior

At the maroon and gold school ( John Adams Rebels ) I stayed away from all the physical science classes . I had Miss Do ( Dough ) for Spanish and that was one of my favorite times . I believe that ’ s what launched me into two years of Italian at the Ohio State University . I never got an A from Professor Moore . He started every class with “ Buon Giorno ” and I loved his finals . They were one-on-one conversations about Dante , Boccaccio and Italy . My guess was that the non-Italians got the
