Une nuit à Dar Sabri I one night at Dar Sabri I

n
abeul - a town in the Cap
Bon, Tunisia, is known for
its pottery but not really for
the small Medina. Yet, it is
there that our retreat began.
Someone waiting for us
at the gates of the Medina
guided us in the teeming lanes: it was at the bottom
of a narrow dead-end that we passed the threshold
of Dar Sabri: an architectural gem, a patio house,
restored and dressed in white. Refreshment was
served…we were already cut off from the world,
away from the hustle and bustle.
Sabri chose the stone of sobriety: nothing is
superfluous except for the comfort and generous
suites. Four in all: two around the patio (gold and
silver suites) and two on the terrace roof, Ymen
and Eben suites. Each decorated according to
their names, but all embroidered with Tunisian
handicrafts. One particular choice to enhance
the beauty of this house is the collaboration with
Tunisian craftsmen: Tarak Kammoun glasses,
BelArt dishes from the workshops located in Nabeul,
Meriem Besbes ‘s wool plaids, adornment beds, also
from Nabeul, are handwoven.
It was time for calm and cool under the arches of
the patio, relaxing on mattresses in the pool or on
the terrace: a place with clean lines, bordered with
prickly pears. Since that year, the Dar Sabri has
taken new tunes: the house opens for other special
events: breakfast tables, conferences and dinners.
Dar Sabri is a philosophy, a lifestyle in itself, a way to
discover Tunisia and its refinements. I
