El Ghezal
Photographe, vidéaste et plasticien, Fakhri el Ghezal est né en 1981 à Akouda dans la région du Sahel tunisien.
Muni d’un ancien appareil argentique Nikon que son père a racheté au photographe du village, il s’installe à Tunis
pour étudier à l’Institut supérieur des Beaux Arts. Après quatre années d’études, il obtient une maitrise en arts
plastiques spécialité gravure et décroche par la suite un Master en Art et Communication, à l’institut des Beaux
Arts de Nabeul. C’est un jeune photographe qui séduit par son travail tantôt décalé et plein d’humour tantôt grave
et intriguant. En 2006, il est récompensé par le troisième prix du concours organisé par l’Arabian Tunis Bank et
participe aux 4èmes Rencontres internationales Photographiques de Ghar El Melh. Entre 2006 et 2013, il réalise
plusieurs œuvres artistiques, telles que les séries “The Abdelabasset Patchwork” et «Otage” en 2007, la vidéo “El
Chanty” en 2009, l’installation “Halkoum” à Dream City en 2010, la série “SIDI(S)” en 2011 et les séries “Chokran
Ya Siadat Al Rais” et “Weld Men” en 2012. Ses œuvres sont présentes lors d’expositions et festivals internationaux, tels que les Rencontres Africaines de la photographie de Bamako, le Festival du Cinéma Africain de Tarifa,
en Espagne, aux Halles de Schaerbeek à Bruxelles, au Festival Awaln’art, à Marrakech ainsi qu’au Abou Dhabi Art
Fair. En 2013 il participe à POLITICS, une exposition collective itinérante à la galerie Talmart, à Paris. Il est artiste
associé à la Plateforme Siwa et membre fondateur du collectif Politics à Tunis qui a présenté sa première exposition en 2012.
Photographer, videographer and visual artist, Fakhri el Ghezal was born in 1981 in Akouda, in the Tunisian Sahel
region. With an old Nikon film camera that his father bought from the village photographer, he settles in Tunis to
study at the Higher Institute of Fine Arts. After four years, he obtains a master in visual arts, specialty engraving,
and afterwards gets a Master’s in Art and Communication from the Institute of Fine Arts in Nabeul.
He is a young photographer who seduces with his work sometimes quirky and filled with humor, sometimes
serious and captivating. In 2006, he receives the third prize of the competition organized by the Arabian Tunis
Bank and participates in the 4th International Photographic Encounters in Ghar El Melh. Between 2006 and 2013,
he makes several artistic works, such as the series “The Abdelabasset Patchwork” and «Otage” in 2007, the video
“El Chanty” in 2009, the installation “Halkoum” in Dream City in 2010, the series “SIDI(S)” in 2011 and “Chokran Ya
Siadat Al Rais” and “Weld Men” in 2012.His works are displayed in international exhibitions and festivals, such as
the Bamako African Photography Festival, the African Cinema Festival in Tarifa, Spain, the Halles of Schaerbeek in
Brussels, the Awaln’art Festival in Marrakech as well as the Abou Dhabi Art Fair. In 2013, he takes part in POLITICS,
a travelling collective exhibition at the gallery Talmart, in Paris. He is an associated artist at the Siwa Plateform
and a founding member of the collective Politics in Tunis, which presented its first exhibition in 2012.
