views of tunisia Nicholas Linn
Nicholas is a photographer originally from the US state of Arkansas. He first started taking
pictures professionally while interning for a small newspaper in Sana’a, Yemen. After
graduating from the University of Arkansas with a double major in International Relations and
Middle Eastern Studies, he moved to Tunis, Tunisia. Nicholas’ passion is telling peoples’ stories,
seeking to frame important stories or bring larger issues to light through his camera lens. He is
currently working as a photojournalist for news organizations such as VICE, Al Jazeera English,
Quartz, and Middle East Eye. He’s also recently worked with several non-profit organizations
and tourist agencies, helping them spread their stories and messages. When he’s not taking
pictures, Nicholas is often found near his home in Sidi Bou Said, reading or enjoying a glass of
Tunisian wine with friends.
These photographs are part of a collection about the rich cultural history of the Ottoman Empire
left behind in Tunisia. The country was an important part of the empire during its heyday, and
its rulers (beys) built lavish palaces for themselves in and around Tunis. I
