fter thirteen years of maturation and six years of construction, the Louis Vuitton
Foundation has finally open its doors to the public on October 24th 2014.
With this colossal project, Bernard Arnault (director of the luxury group LVMH) wished
to create, in the West of Paris, a place dedicated to art that would also be a catalyst
for dialogues between works of art, artists and visitors from all around the world.
The building definitely constitutes the first artistic approach of the Foundation. Designed by the famous architect Frank Gehry, whose credits include the Guggenheim
Museum in Bilbao and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, the Louis Vuitton Foundation stands out
at the Jardin d’Acclimatation like a crystal palace, a masterpiece that ranks among the greatest monuments
of the French capital.
On a surface of 11 000 m², including 7 000 m² open to the public, the Foundation has 11 galleries dedicated
to the presentation of the LVMH collections, artistic interventions and temporary exhibitions. A modular auditorium (with a capacity of 360 to 1 000 spectators) regularly hosts concerts and international artists recitals.
The Louis Vuitton Foundation currently presents an exhibition on Frank Gehry’s building (from October 24th
2014 to March 16th 2015), the occasion to reveal the genesis of Bernard Arnaud’s project. At the same time
and until February 16th, the exhibition Contact by Olafur Eliasson is presented. His works connect directly with
several of our senses. I
