“Painting set free“ est la première exposition consacrée aux œuvres de Joseph Mallord William Turner crées
entre 1835 et 1851. Ces peintures injustement méconnues du grand public témoignent de l’incroyable créativité du peintre. Pour cet évènement exceptionnel, le Tate Britain a rassemblé de nombreuses oeuvres dont La
Rome antique, Campo Vaccino et Heidelberg : coucher du soleil provenant de musées du Royaume-Uni et de
l’étranger. L’exposition présente également une surprenante série de peintures carrées et qui soulignent les
techniques innovantes de William Turner. Enfin, plusieurs aquarelles récemment identifiées sont présentées
au côté de la fameuse peinture L’Incendie de la Chambre des Lords et des Communes, le 16 octobre 1834. I
Turner’s last years : painting set free, from September 10th 2014 to January 25th 2015. “Painting set free“ is
the first exhibition dedicated to the works of Joseph Mallord William Turner created between 1835 and 1851.
These paintings unfairly unknown to the general public testify to the painter’s incredible creativity. For this
exceptional event, the Tate Britain has gathered numerous pieces including The antique Rome, Campo
Vaccino and Heidelberg : sunset from United Kingdom museums and abroad. The exhibition also presents
a surprising series of square shaped paintings, highlighting William Turner’s innovative techniques. Finally,
several watercolors recently
identified are presented next to
the famous painting The Burning of the Houses of Lords and
Commons, October 16, 1834. I
