erlin, the capital of Germany and the country’s largest city, is also
a major center of politics, culture, media, and science. Noted for
its cultural flair, the German city is home to the world-famous
Berlin Opera and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, while its diverse art scene
encompasses hundreds of galleries, events, and museums, including
those on Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Despite the
devastation of WWII and following decades of decay to the east of the
infamous Berlin Wall, the city has been rebuilt in a way that celebrates its
successes while acknowledging a dark past. Berlin offers an eclectic mix
of new and classic architecture, dynamic entertainment, shopping, and a
governmental area of town features many other historic symbols including:
the transparent dome over the Reichstag, the German parliament, the
chancellery which is tucked away in a bend of the river Spree, and the
Kaiser Wilhelm Kirche with its crumbled bell-tower that has never been
rebuilt.
Everyone who visits Berlin is fascinated. A futuristic city harbouring a
troubled past, Berlin’s rebuild has been at the hands of some of the best
in architecture. The city’s monuments, museums, parks and shopping
centres now boast grandeur. I

The heart of the city revolves around Mitte, the former East Berlin. Here
you’ll find many attractions, museums and places of entertainment. A
must-see when in this European capital is the Brandenburg Gate. Leading
onto Alexander Platz on the Kurfürstendamm, Berlin’s very own Champs-
Elysées, and to the Charlottenburg castle dating back to the 17th and
18th centuries, this monument has been restored to its former glory. Also
see trendy East Central Berlin and visit East Berlin to see where Germany
surrendered to the Soviets at the end of WWII and the Stasi prison. Berlin
is not just historic buildings and monuments; the city has many stunning
parks, lakes and gardens as well as forests on the city outskirts. Spend
time in the grand city squares like Gendarmenmarkt, where you can see
the Deutscher Dom, Franzosischer Dom and the Berlin Concert Hall.
Potsdamer Platz is Berlin’s Time Square and don’t miss the symbol of
Berlin, the Brandenburg Gate built in 1791. Berlin is a large sprawling
city with many wide streets and distinct neighborhoods however there is
a good underground system which can get you to wherever you need to
go. Walk through the arches of this monumental gate, standing proudly in
the middle of Pariser Platz where all grand parades in Berlin take place.
Keep going and you’ll end up in Mitte, the city’s historic centre. This
