Le Louvre célèbre le 5e centenaire du décès de Léonard de Vinci à
travers une exposition événement. Cette rétrospective exceptionnelle
dédiée au génie florentin, rassemble cinq des plus célèbres toiles
du maître, à savoir La Vierge aux rochers, La Belle Ferronnière, La
Joconde, Le Saint Jean-Baptiste et La Sainte Anne. Par la confrontation
de ces chefs d’œuvres à de nombreux dessins ainsi qu’à un
ensemble restreint de tableaux et sculptures de l’environnement du
maître et à la lumière de documents d’archives, le musée parisien
éclaircit la biographie de Léonard de Vinci et dresse « le portrait
d’un homme et d’un artiste d’une extraordinaire liberté ». Afin
d’anticiper l’affluence que générera cette exposition d’envergure, le
Louvre instaure pour la première fois de son histoire la réservation

An exceptional exhibition on Leonardo da Vinci is presented at the Musée du
Louvre starting this fall. A unique group of artworks that only the Louvre could bring
together, in addition to its outstanding collection of paintings and drawings by the
Italian master.
The year 2019 has a special significance for the French museum, as it will mark
the fifth centenary of the Italian master’s death. It is therefore a unique opportunity
for the Louvre to bring as many as possible of the fourteen to seventeen paintings
now attributed to Leonardo, according to specialists, to join the five large paintings
in the Paris museum: Virgin of the Rocks, La Belle Ferronnière, La Joconde, Saint
John the Baptist and Madonna and Saint Anne. The exhibition will include a large
selection of drawings and a small but significant group of paintings and sculptures
that will provide some tangible context.
Anyone planning a visit to Paris’ Louvre museum has been warned to book in
advance - as the museum is increasingly too full to accept visitors without a pre-
