31, 1968: Umm Kulthum’ s breathtaking visit to Tunisia
Fifty years ago, legendary“ Kawkab-Al-Sharq”( Star of the Orient) who mesmerized Arab audiences from the Persian Gulf to Morocco for half a century held two historic concerts in Tunisia.
On a shimmering day in May, the Egyptian Diva landed on the Tunisian soil, welcomed with great fanfare by hundreds of Tunisian citizens, officials, media and artists who had been waiting at the airport for hours before she was driven to the Hilton hotel. On 31 May 1968, Umm Kulthum performed at El Menzah Dome – built a year before-“ Fakkarouni” and“ Al Atlal”, then a few days later, on June 3rd,“ Inta omri” and“ Baid annak”- four famous songs of the Egyptian legend’ s immense repertoire that made the two three-hour concerts mind-blowing, forever memorable.“ The Star of the Orient” was hosted at the“ Palais de Carthage” by President Habib Bourguiba and the First Lady. She also visited the capital and the city of Hammamet. After her outstanding visit, a street- close to Habib Bourguiba main Avenue- bears her name. Umm Kulthum, born in the early Twentieth Century and died on February 3, 1975, is the daughter of a village imam who taught her to sing. She made a name for herself to become the most sought-after performer and to remain one of the Arab World’ s best selling singers decades after her death. She leaves behind a considerable work. Such was her popularity that news of her death provoked a spontaneous outpouring of hysterical grief, and millions of admirers lined the streets for her funeral procession. In 2001 the Egyptian government established the Kawkab al-Sharq Museum in Cairo to celebrate the singer’ s life and accomplishments. I
في 31 ماي: 1968 تونس تحبس أنفاسها لزيارة أمّ كلثوم
مرّت خمسون سنة على غناء « كوكب الشق » بتونس٠ عودة إلى هذا الحدث الإستثنائي٠
في هالة من البريق ذات يوم من شهر ماي ، أطلّت محبوبة الجماهير المصرية من على مدارج مطار تونس٠ استُقبلت في أُبّ ة من قبل مجموعة من تونسيين ، مسؤولين و وسائل إعلام وفنّانين كانوا في انتظارها لساعات أمام المطار ، وقد قدمت النجمة العالمية لتتشارك الحلم مع جمهورها التونسي في حفلين تاريخيّين٠ يوم 31 ماي ، 1968 على مسرح قبة المنزه المدشّ نة حديثا ، أحيت سيدة الغناء العربي حفلا أصبح فيما بعد حدثا فارقا في ذاكرة التونسيين ، خاصة بأغنية « فكّروني » التي تلتها الأطلال » ٠ ثلاث ساعات من السعادة العارمة ، من الإحساس والثمالة! دائما بالمنزه ، وبعد « ثلاثة أيّام ، تحديدا يوم 3 جوان ، مدّدت « كوكب الشق » المتعة بإهدائها جمهورها الغفير
٠ » إنت عمري » و » بعيد عنّك « خلال إقامتها بتونس بنزل « الهلتون ،» استقبلها الرّئيس « الحبيب بورقيبة » والسيّدة الأولى بقصر قرطاج٠ كما زارت العاصمة ومدينة الحمّامات٠ كان حضورها استثنائيا إلى درجة أنّ شارعا قريبا من شارع الحبيب بورقيبة سُ ّ ي تكريما لها٠ ولدت أمّ كلثوم في بداية القرن العشين وتُوُفّيت يوم 3 فيفري ، 1975 وهي ابنة إمام جامع٠
، كانت مولعة بالغناء ، وقد حظيت بمسيرة مهنيّة طويلة جعلت منها أهمّ فنّانة بالعالم العربي إلى درجة أنّ 4 ملايين شخص شيعوا جثمانها إلى مثواه الأخير٠ مخلّفة وراءها مسيرة بارزة٠ 1
