Hinde Boujemaa: It’s difficult to define yourself, but my parents think that I’m a stubborn, forthright and perfectionist person. That is nothing out of the ordinary but it’s fine with me. 2 LG: How did you come up with the idea of making “Noura rêve”? HB: All directors are social observers; I think we all have a thousand and one ideas that cross our minds. I would say that we implement the ideas that seem to us to be the most selfishly urgent. A film’s idea can originate from a discussion, a street scene, a book, or from a news item that shakes us up and that we want to transcribe, which is the case of Noura rêve. LG: In this film, you deal with adultery in Tunisian society. Why did you choose this difficult and sometimes controversial theme in Tunisia? HB: I didn’t choose the theme; I heard the testimony of a woman who went to prison under denunciation of her husband from whom she was separated and not divorced. This shocked me even more because the husband was living with another woman. Thus, I discovered this backward- looking law that monopolizes a State apparatus, the police and the judicial system in this case, for a private story of three people. In my opinion, this is nonsense because I firmly believe that the police have a more urgent job to do, such as fighting corruption, drugs or crime, rather than dealing with a matter as intimate as that of a couple. It is a law to be abolished since it hinders institutions to carry out more serious missions. LG: The film is led by two great Tunisian actors, Hend Sabri and Lotfi Abdelli. How was the shooting with those two actors who are known for their strong personality? HB: Hend Sabri and Lotfi Abdelli are extremely disciplined and very hard-working actors, which is not incompatible with a strong personality. They are dedicated to their work and devote all their energy to it, so it is extremely pleasant to work with them. Meeting with Hinde Boujemaa The director who challenges the codes through her film «Noura rêve» Tunisian-Belgian director and scriptwriter, Hinde Boujemaa has just won the Golden Tanit Award at the last edition of the Carthage Film Festival for her film “Noura rêve”. A poignant film about adultery in Tunisia starring Hend Sabri and Lotfi Abdelli. Meeting with a committed woman for whom cinema also exists to denounce. LG: The film has won several international awards, including the Golden Tanit at JCC 2019. How did you feel about this recognition in Tunisia? HB: I was moved for Hend and for all my actors. A film is a group affair even if it initially comes out of the desire of only one person, so it was a gift for each of the people who gave the best of themselves for this film. It is their joy that makes me proud. LG: Tunisian cinema has been gaining real international recognition in recent years. What do you think are the areas of improvement so that it can be exported even better? HB: The financing of the sector obviously with the creation of financing parallel to that of the Ministry. But also by facilitating sponsorship, as with the tax shelter in Belgium, which, with an upper funding limit to avoid abuses, exempts taxes for companies that invest in art. The Ministry of Finance needs to cooperate closely with the Ministry of Culture to create the necessary tax laws for this idea. LG: What are your projects in the months ahead?
