A gigantic project that today makes this establishment one of the most luxurious in the world! E ven if this majestic building has everything of a palace, the Crillon had yet to win the distinction. Indeed, facing the tough competition of the new Paris luxury hotels, namely Shangri-La, Mandarin Oriental or the Peninsula, Prince Miteb bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, who purchased the property in 2010, shuttered the hotel in 2013 for its much needed face lift. The now Rosewood Hotels & Resorts managed property is opulent, but by no means pretentious. The goal is to embrace the Crillon’s legacy, enhancing its 18th-century furnishings, while bringing the hotel into the 21st century. New spaces -a spa and a pool- have been built for 21st century travellers. Apart from a diverse gastronomic choice, whether the Crillon’s new fine dining restaurant, a more casual eatery brasserie and bar, a posh courtyard, or Jardin d’Hiver for afternoon tea, aboundinf choice and discreet excellence seduce more than ever. The storied landmark was commissioned by King Louis XV in 1758 and built by Ange-Jacques Gabriel, the biggest architect of his time. When the ambitious renovation task began, no expense was spared, and four Paris-based interior designers namely, Tristan Auer, Chahan Minassian, Cyril Vergniol and Aline Asmar d’Amman were brought in to work with talented artisans. One can’t talk about the Crillon’s accommodations without mentioning the two Grands Appartements by Karl Lagerfeld. 128 The legendary designer was asked to contribute to the project due to its head-to-toe makeover or its historic past, but because everything his affinity for 18th-century antiques: canopy beds, a Lagerfeld-curated falls in line from the second you step in to the painstaking moment you library and a bright bathroom with massive marble. must depart. An icon has truly been reborn Needless to say, this is one of Paris’s best hotels.
