Douz International Festival celebrates its 50th anniversary
The International festival of Douz, known as the Sahara festival, is the event that gives life to the Tunisian South and ito its traditions year after year. It has been a landmark festival since 1910, under the aegis of the Resident general of France. It is only in 1967 that it sees its first international edition. The International Festival of the Sahara of Douz will blow its 50th candle this year.
What is magical about the International Festival is that all aspects of the Bedouins lives are gathered for a few days together. From traditional wedding ceremonies to musical performances, to the hunting of the Sloughi( Arab greyhound), festival-goers live a true immersion in the heart of life in the desert. This festival is also an opportunity to marvel at the fantasias. These equestrian spectacles, truly elevated to the rank of art, are equally called game of horses or of powder, and offer to the astonished eyes of spectators, simulations of military assault, in which harmonious concatenations of cavalry and gunfire are intermingled. The rich and colourful ornaments of the mounts give the final touch to the picture of this typically Berber equestrian art, whose origin is entrenched since the XIIIth century BC. Occupying Place Henich, surrounded by Bedouin tents and a landscape of endless sand dunes, Douz International Festival attracts thousands of people from all over Tunisia and beyond. مهرجان دوز الدولي الذي يعرف أيضا بمهرجان الصحراء هو
