Rencontres de Bamako, Biennale
Africaine de la Photographie
Du 2 décembre 2017 au 31 janvier 2018
Bamako accueille avec un honneur et un plaisir renouvelés la
11ème édition des Rencontres de Bamako, Biennale Africaine de la
Photographie, organisée par le Ministère de la Culture du Mali en
collaboration avec l’Institut français. En choisissant d’intituler cette
édition Afrotopia, Ann Yemsi, la commissaire d’exposition, invite
les artistes à réfléchir aux ressorts du futur et à la contribution du
continent dans un monde globalisé. La programmation s’inscrit dans
un dispositif urbain comprenant le Musée National du Mali, épicentre
de l’évènement, le Musée du District, la Galerie Médina, l’Institut
français de Bamako et le Parc National. De nombreuses expositions
en Off accroitront l’offre aux visiteurs. On note une participation
remarquée de deux artistes Tunisiens, Héla Ammar et Zied Ben

After the 10th edition in 2015, which marked a milestone in the Biennale’s history,
Bamako is again honoured and delighted to welcome the 11th Rencontres de
Bamako, the African Biennale of Photography, organized by Mali’s Ministry of
Culture, in partnership with the Institut français.
The decision to call this Biennale Afrotopia by Curator Ann Yemsi is an invitation for
artists to consider the future and the contribution of the continent in a globalised
world. The Rencontres offer exhibitions displayed in Bamako’s main cultural
venues, including program the National Museum of Mali, epicentre of the event,

the District Museum, the Medina Gallery, the French Institute of Bamako and the
National Park. Many collateral exhibitions will be held across the city in conjunction
with the Biennale. Héla Ammar and Zied Ben Romdhane, two Tunisian artists were
