The City of Culture opens its doors.
Set out on a journey with lingering setbacks and impediments, Tunisian capital will finally celebrate the opening of its City of Culture on 28 February 2018. It is a major project that is unveiled to the public. Located in the heart of the capital, on Avenue Mohamed V, the City of Culture hosts many spaces dedicated to different art centres. Construction that saw the light thirteen years ago under the initiative of Ben Ali government, for an amount of 120 million Dinars( the equivalent of 40 million Euros), was suspended, in the aftermath of the revolution, to be finally restarted in 2016, under the leadership of the Minister of Culture, Sonia Mbarek. Stretched on a 49,000 m ² surface, the building includes two cinemas, a theatre, an 1800-seat opera house, an auditorium, a digital library, seven music production studios, the Artist and theatre House, as well as several shopping centres.
