CONTRACTOR SUCCESS STORY II : ESCOBAR CONSTRUCTION
not understand the benefit of being a Certified Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business until 2018 . That is when I started to form my team and get my company structured to be able to work competitively in the public sector .” The Contractor Development and Bonding Program ( CDABP ) has been providing Ron with the practical training , guidance and support that is helping his business make that leap .
After enrolling in the Program and actively bidding on projects , Escobar Construction was awarded a 5-year Multiple Award Task Order Contract ( MATOC ) for the National Cemetery Administration , within the U . S . Department of Veteran Affairs , to maintain 23 national cemeteries in nine States in the Pacific Region , which Ron estimates will increase his company ’ s revenue by $ 2 million a year over the duration of the contract . “ I am beyond proud to have the honor to be part of the team that will maintain the shrines that are the final resting place of our national heroes . We will work on the grounds that have medal of honor recipients from the Civil War until today . It is a somber duty and a task that gives me goosebumps daily .”
Besides getting Metro-certified and becoming one of the first graduates of LAWA ’ s BuildLAX Training Academy , Ron is now a prime contractor providing services to a wide range of clients and successfully creating joint venture partnerships . As he points out , “ Besides our commitment to excellence and our marketing and managerial acumen , Escobar Construction has DVBE certification , which provides access to contracts that many other companies could
not get otherwise . Meanwhile , joint ventures have allowed us to increase our bonding capacity and partner with companies that have greater expertise in their respective fields . My view is that these public sector projects are funded by all of our taxes and , as such , the entire tax-paying community should have the opportunity to participate and prosper from them .”
