Awarded an over $ 3 Million subcontract earlier this year with the Regional Connector Constructors ( Skanska-Traylor Shea JV ) for the procurement and installation of a Metro radio cable system , KPA Constructors has successfully participated in four Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority / Metro communication projects to-date .

They specialize in the design and construction of complex communications and electrical systems for transit and heavy civil projects . Certified as a Local Business Enterprise ( LBE ), Small Local Business ( SLB ), and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise ( DBE ), KPA Constructors has also been approved for and have pending a number of other applicable state and local certifications . Their specialized and detailed knowledge , hard work and decades of proven success have earned them commendations and contract awards .

Co-owner and Vice President of Operations for KPA Constructors , Kit Wong ’ s responsibilities include overseeing all the company ’ s field work . Kit seemed destined for a career in civil engineering , although he didn ’ t decide on that field until college . “ My high school Physics class held a bridge-building contest using popsicle sticks , which I won ,” he recalls . “ At the time , my teacher suggested that I get into civil engineering at Cal Polytechnic University in Pomona . I did enroll at CalPoly , where I won another bridge-building contest . That ’ s when I chose to become a civil engineer .” He ’ s quick to point out that getting a degree in Civil Engineering doesn ’ t provide hands-on preparation for the complexities of designing and building subways , trackwork and the electrical systems that power them , so he was fortunate enough to have great mentors working with Washington Group International and also learned a lot on the job . Kit ’ s areas of expertise include the design and installation of light rail transit systems , guideway , trackwork , communications duct banks and related concrete underground and overhead structures . He ’ s also made safety a particular area of emphasis .
“ We were awarded our subcontract based on our previous work inside twin tunnels on prior Metro projects ,” says Kit . The current Metro project will run between underground tunnels starting at Little Tokyo through the 7th and Metro station . They will also be placing radio cables inside the three new Metro underground stations at 1st Street and Central , 2nd Street and Broadway , and
