Albert and George Chavez of Green Garden , Inc .: Life-Long Experience Yields Industry Excellence
George Chavez , co-owner of Green Garden , Inc . literally grew up in the industry . “ My father , Albert , owned the landscaping company ,” he explains , “ so I have been interested and working in the horticulture and landscape industry since I was young and started working with my father when I was 15 years old . As I got older , my responsibilities within the company increased and after I graduated high school , I started taking horticulture classes at Pierce College .”
As his father ’ s company took on new projects , George continued to gain experience while creatively addressing their clients ’ varied needs and goals . “ In my early twenties , I passed the C-27 landscape contractor ’ s exam and changed the company ’ s name .”
Although Green Garden , Inc . was always able to gain new business through word-of-mouth referrals , these tended to be smaller jobs and George knew that they had the skill and experience to take on bigger projects . However , one of the challenges that he faced as a small business owner was competing with much larger landscaping companies whose budgets allowed them to advertise and float the costs for large-
