MWIS CELEBRATES 25 YEARS
Merriwether ’ s ability to make things happen and not accept the status quo .
“ What Ingrid did 25 years ago was nothing short of courageous . She took this concept that government should somehow provide more opportunities to small , minority , and womenowned businesses and made a business out of it ,” said Delgadillo , who formerly served as Los Angeles city attorney and is currently a partner at DLA Piper .
“ There were many times she was told ‘ no ’ and she had to stand up and say , ‘ Let me show you how this works .’ And she has been doing that for 25 years with close to $ 900 million of contracts that have been bid on because of her tenacity ,” he said .
MWIS administers a regional Contractor Development and Bonding Program ( CDABP ) that aims to help small and diverse construction firms access infrastructure projects . The regional CDABP ( www . LAConDev . com ) includes the County of Los Angeles , Los Angeles Metro , and the City of Los Angeles .
The office of Los Angeles County Supervisor Holly J . Mitchell presented Merriwether with a certificate of appreciation on behalf of the County of Los Angeles . “ Supervisor Mitchell is for all things concerning diversity , equity , and inclusion , which is representative of this company ,” said April Johnson , assistant director of constituent engagement for Supervisor Mitchell .
In her remarks , Merriwether thanked clients and sponsors – the City and County of San Francisco , the City and County of Los Angeles , and LA Metro – for removing barriers , recognizing inequity , and funding change .
