Robert Murphy , a Business Relations and Compliance Associate with the County Public Works Department , provided an informative presentation on doing business with his department . “ There are a few things that you have to do as a business owner before you can do business with Public Works , and step one is becoming an LA County Vendor ,” he said . The L . A . County Public Works portal is where contractors can find out about billions of dollars ’ worth of bid opportunities . Additionally , the portal notifies vendors of opportunities that match their specific licenses . With the help of dedicated contractor development managers at the CDABP , contractors can review the RFPs and identify the requirements needed to bid .
Miguel Angel Tamayo , a Contract Analyst and Administrative Manager II with the County ISD , provided a detailed overview of the various construction opportunities currently available . He encouraged small , diverse contractors to bid and take advantage of these opportunities . However , he emphasized the importance of signing up as a vendor at the county portal to be considered for these bids . “ We need to know who you are and what services you can provide ,” he explained . All the speakers at this event agreed that becoming a vendor is the first step for those who want to do business with public agencies . At the CDABP , contractor development managers are available to help contractors navigate these portals and address any technical difficulties that may arise during the process .
