Catherine O’Rawe | Divi: La mascolinità nel cinema italiano
Catherine co-authored this work with fellow academic Jacqueline Reich, who is based in New York. The book addresses male stardom in Italian cinema, with the first part of the book giving a historical and theoretical overview of acting and performance, as well as addressing the cultural significance of stars in Italy. The second part of the book consists of eleven chapters, each dedicated to an actor, from the silent period up to the present day. The book provides an interesting angle as female stardom is more often the focus, manifested in the ‘diva’ character frequently featured in Italian cinema. Catherine studies how different stars embody the essence of masculinity, and how this is perceived and represented in the wider context of society.
The book has already won us over with its effortlessly stylish front cover.
