John Cabot Academy Visit – March 24th

On the last week of the spring term, the University of Bristol Italian Department played host to a group of students from Bristol’s John Cabot Academy as part of the University’s “Widening Participation” program, intended to promote language learning up to A-Levels and into university. The students, aged around 15, came for a day of sample lectures with Italian lecturers at the University, as well as the chance to meet current students at the University and ask them about their experiences.

What they said:

The students enjoyed the visit and were particularly struck by hearing about the year abroad. They have spoken about it since and asked if we could come again sometime! They thought that the language lesson was engaging and were pleased to be able to access the content.

I found the talk really interesting. He spoke in detail about aspects of Italian society which pass under the radar and piqued my interest in his research. Thanks to the organisers for inviting such a prominent and engaging speaker!

The talk was exciting and thought provoking. Since I am going to Naples for my year abroad, this lecture particularly interested me and it offered an insightful behind-the-scenes view of life and of the different workings of the mafia groups.
