People walking on the bridge stop to watch the 'ovovia' slowly make its way along the side, while its passengers are made to feel a bit like extraterrestrials. Also, these cabins presented their own problems: the doors are too narrow and don't meet the minimum width, and the the inside of the cabin can reach 70ÂșC in the summer.

The bridge's surpassed budget, which was initially of about 4 million euros, is also subject to criticism. By the time the bridge was inaugurated the cost had at least tripled, an occurrence not unusual for Calatrava's buildings. The architect's most famous Spanish construction, the Ciudad de las Ciencias y de las Artes in Valencia, had a budget of 150 million euros when in fact the final cost was multiplied by ten. Also, Calatrava's buildings are generally very expensive to maintain, and the Ponte della Costituzione is not an exception. The department responsible for its daily maintenance has filed a law suit against the architect regarding flaws in design and building.

Il ponte della Constituzione is undoubtedly a source of debate amongst Venetians, whether it be for those fond of Venice's traditional architecture or for those who search to modernize the city.
