Dr John Foot is a professor of Modern Italian History at the University of Bristol. Dr Foot studied at Oriel College Oxford, and studied for his PhD at Kings College Cambridge. Dr Foot published “Milan since the Miracle” in both English and Italian in 2001 and 2003, after studies on Milan's economic growth after the World War. Dr Foot has researched the divided and fragmented memories in Italy in the Twentieth Century and in 2009 and 2011 wrote a monograph in Italian and English called Fratture d'Italia, [Italy's Divided Memory]. In 2004 Dr Foot started his research on the history of Italian football, and in 2006 and 2007 he wrote Calcio in English and Italian. This book was runner-up for the Premio Bancarella Sports Book prize in 2008; his research on Italian sport led to research on the history of Italian cycling and analysis of the famous Italian cycling race, the Giro d'Italia. His book Giro d'Italia, Pedalare! Pedalare! was subsequently published in English and Italian in 2011 and 2012. Dr Foot's major project at UCL was a documentary film called Ringhiera: Story of a House (2004), which was shown at a number of film festivals and conferences. Dr Foot was appointed coeditor of the journal Modern Italy, published by Taylor and Francis, and writes regular blogs for the Internazionale magazine in Italian, and The Guardian.
