We hear from two recent graduates on their experiences studying Italian at Bristol and where they are now.

1) Why did you choose Italian as a language in the first place?

I wanted to try and become fluent in it and learn about Italian history, culture

and politics. There are Italian roots on my dad’s side of the family, as my surname suggests, but I’d never

lived in Italy or mastered

the language.

2) How would you describe

your experience of

studying the language

3) What is the most memorable experience you have had in connection to your

studies of Italian?

While I could have gone for something a bit more enjoyable, one I certainly won’t forget in a while is the process of buying a second-hand car in Palermo. The sellers didn’t speak English and all had strong Sicilian accents, so it was something of a challenge to follow them and the vocab they used about car parts I wasn’t familiar with..
