Donatella Versace certainly surprised everyone this year by creating a night to remember which brought the audience back to the Versace of the late 90s. The first few looks included beautifully tailored jet-black coat dresses, followed by casual hints of blue which then transitioned into a collection of jungle-printed looks. Google technology was used to create the prints in light of the beginning of Google images, made possible by Jennifer Lopez’ famously worn jungle-print Versace dress at the Grammy Awards in 2000. The audience was startled by the bold entrance of J-Lo in a remake of the dress at the end of the show and sprung to their feet instantly. This was the moment that made Versace’s show the most-instagrammed moment of Milan Fashion Week, and an unforgettable evening.

For Prada, the simplicity of their garments demonstrated their contribution to the importance of environmental issues within the fashion industry. Miuccia Prada’s message was to encourage people to buy fewer items and to choose wisely, to end the current disposable nature of fashion. The looks portrayed this idea through simple patterns and faint colours which encourage mixing and matching, and tailored jackets with belt loops but no belts.

This year Silvia Venturini Fendi, who has worked with Karl Lagerfeld in the past, used sunrises as a background for the Fendi collection to show reflection as a theme. 70s vibes were evident in this show, with heavy beige looks contrasted with floral quilted jackets which gave off a sense of nature. The show emphasised practicality, with models wearing moccasins instead of high heels.
