Within Italy, perhaps the most famous surfing can be found in the seaside town of Levanto, Liguria, which is often referred to as “Italy's surfing central". Levanto boasts the country's longest lefthander waves, and at only 40 miles from Genoa, is accessible too. Further down south locals boast of 12ft swells and regular surf during the winter. The island of Sardinia hosts the largest, most challenging and most consistent waves in the Med, which rival in size many spots from the UK.
So if ever you fancy swapping the sun lounger for the surfboard, you might be surprised at what you can find along the Italian coast.
