As we all know by now , the Covid-19 pandemic has brought so much to a halt , and one of those things is the world of theatre . A place that was once home to entertainment , thrill and elation has now turned into a silent ghost town – a whole culture and industry has been temporarily crushed .
However , despite the inability to be in a crowd and watch captivating plays , the community and spirit of those who love the theatre still stands . Fans , playwrights and actors have come together to try and keep the world of theatre alive .
Take for example , the Bellini Theatre in Naples . A group of artists , playwrights and actors have decided to lock down in the theatre to create a play about peoples ’ experiences in lockdown . The play , ‘ Zona Rossa ,’ named after areas in Italy where infection rates are highest , and lockdown restrictions are the toughest , will be performed on the first day that theatres are able to reopen . The complete immersion that these creatives have taken is extraordinary ; they are sleeping , eating and living in the theatre , reflecting how some people have not been able to leave their homes in nearly a year . This makes for a brilliant backstory , elevating the play to a completely new level .
