What is the best reward / recognition you have received in your career - something that you will remember for a long time and what is the best reward / recognition you have given a colleague / team member ?
Job rotations , increased responsibilities , appreciation in public - are some of my most memorable rewards .
I have retained copies of written communication where my work is appreciated and I love reading them sometimes . Some of these are over a decade ( and a few companies ) old but they still manage to motivate me . I have generally seen people happy with appreciation - either individually or in public even without any monetary component involved .
My best performing team members cherish the occasional text message that I send them saying how valuable they are and how much I enjoy working with them . They say this motivates them to give in their best for a long time to come ! Sometimes it is the smallest , but genuine , gestures that have the biggest impact !
